KITCHEN UPGRADES
|
|
We have purchased and had installed a “modern jiko” which is a cooking stove that uses a small amount of firewood and has the smoke vented out through a pipe. It can cook for up to 300 people at once and is much healthier for our cooks since there is almost no smoke in the room. Our kitchen staff is very excited and delighted!
We have also purchased a brick oven which is said to be able to cook 300 loaves of bread in 20 minutes. This will not only replace one of our biggest monthly expenses, but it is also another income generating activity. All we have to do is learn how to sell hundreds of loaves of bread per day. I made the history books by preparing the first pizza in history at Usigu, Kenya!

BRICK MACHINE
|
We have purchased a new “interlocking brick machine” which can produce around 300 bricks per day. They will be making 10,000 bricks while I am back in the States which should be ready when I come back. We can then begin construction. Also, this machine will be a money maker in income generating activities. It can also be taken on location for brick-making to build churches, etc.
Our first brick!

DISCIPLESHIP
|
During my last trip, I was able to preach at a pastors conference and spend time discipling our staff at the home. We had the very great privilege of attending the ceremony of our first graduating class of the International School of Ministry Bible College – Usigu. Four of the graduates were our very own, and we are so proud of them!

Dear Friend,
God is good! I am so excited to share with you all of the wonderful things that are happening with Carry the Light Ministries.

Carry the Light Children’s Home – Usigu |
Our registration has now been approved on the district level and sent to Nairobi for issuance. Praise the Lord! After an on-site inspection, the registration for Carry the Light Christian Academy has been approved on the local level and is now at the district level. We hope to hear something by the end of June. It will be so wonderful for our children to be able to attend school on our property and to be able to offer it to the community.

Land News
|
We have received our long awaited Title Deed for the existing compound (a three-year journey)! We have also purchased the new plot of land. It is about three times as big as we had originally hoped for and paid in full. The owners of the adjoining piece of land that we want have agreed to sell. I will work this out when I return in July. We are now in the process of fencing the new property. Under the new Constitution, we hope to have the title Deed for the new plot by July or August.

New Dormitory |
I have drawn up the plans for the new dormitory which we have decided to build on the new plot. The blueprints have been created and approved by all the necessary parties in Kenya. We have cleared the land and are ready to break ground! In the near future, we will also build a primary school, clinic, church building, and parsonage. I have started purchasing some of the preliminary materials for the upcoming construction of the new dorm building, and the foundation columns and bases are being made now.

Looking Good! |
The dining hall, front offices, and entry hall are now completely tiled. Grammy Rachel is smiling ear-to-ear! The dining hall has been painted and is very bright and clean. Additional paint has been purchased awaiting the arrival of our next team.

|
More Progress |
We have completed the second story slab of the water tower. It will need to cure for three weeks. This means that when our team arrives next month, we will be mounting the second water tank and providing gravity feed water pressure. That means showers even during a blackout! The ground level of the water tower is now our very own “bakery”. The rear balcony is now finished and has windows installed. The electrical work is being done now and it will be ready for painting soon. We have already purchased the glass for the windows.

Harvests |
On my recent trip, we harvested 150 talapia from our fish farm. Our crops are doing very well and our chickens are now laying almost 4,000 (yes, four thousand) eggs per month! This not only improves the diet of the children, but it is also a great income generating activity as we sell the eggs we don’t need.

Progress in Honduras
|
I leave for Honduras very shortly. I will continue the necessary preparatory paperwork and initiate the next step in our construction process. Please help me pray for divine favor with officials and others as we take steps to open the next Carry the Light Children’s Home.
|
|
I could go on and on as there is so much to tell. There is excitement as we finish each project and start new ones. The children at our home are doing well and are growing so fast! Their health has improved so much since they came into the Home.
Thank you so much to all who have played a part in this dream come true!
Sincerely,
Rev. Greg Haynes
