Terry and I returned from Honduras a little over a week ago after a very successful trip. Things are progressing well there and I wanted to share a brief update and some pix.
Immediately after landing and gathering our luggage, we crossed the busy intersection rolling our luggage behind and entered my Honduran office across the street (Church’s Chicken). We met with my attorney there who is handling our Ministry paperwork. We then moved quickly around the block for a meeting at the immigration office and now I am officially a resident of Honduras! This completes step one of several steps that have to take place in order for us to open the children’s home in Guascopousca. The next morning we met with one of the national directors of INFAH which is the governing authority for the children (similar to Child Protective Services here in the States). It was a direct, to the point meeting of the requirements, step by step, that we must complete in order to register our Children’s Home and begin receiving children. Not a “warm and fuzzy” meeting, but necessary. Later that day, we drove to Marcala after stopping to meet the regional director of INFAH who was very excited and eager to help us after approval to locate and receive our future children for the Home.
With just a few days of construction available to us, we began work the next morning by hiring a backhoe to move, literally, tons of dirt so we could re-fence the fronts and sides of the property and prepare for future buildings which will be built. We painted the Pavillion inside and out after writing Jeremiah 29:11 and James 1:27 on all of the interior walls, as well as the final coat on the inside of the dorm rooms. We placed ceramic tile on the kitchen floor and finished some detail on the roof. Also, we put the lentil, trusses and perlins on the bath house, and the roof and plumbing will be installed while I am away. We are in the process of approving the design for the window and door grills (three crosses) which will make it clear that we are a Christian organization. To top off the progress of our construction days, Sonia cooked us some fresh made tortillas and sopa de pollo (chicken soup) in our new kitchen. Boy, was it good!
I had the privilege of preaching in a small church about what it means to be FILLED with the Spirit. The Bible tells us that we will know them by their fruits – the fruit of the Spirit, or the fruit of this world. I found it interesting that I was preaching to a Baptist congregation with an Assembly of God interpretor, and when it was over, the interpretor told me that the message really spoke to him, that he needed to be FULL of the Holy Spirit! Thought for the day …what fruits are you known by?
Finally, we were able to bless our local Pastor and his family with a much needed get-a-way. He told me last trip that since he became a minister several years ago, his family has not had any type of vacation. It was a great time of bonding and building relationships which is so important as the body of Christ. Future mission teams will be glad to know that the beautiful island of Roatan, Honduras is just a short boat ride from the mainland and a very affortable way to add a nice vacation to the end of a mission trip. The beaches are beautiful and almost anything you can imagine doing at a beach is available. I am told that this is one of the best diving and snorkeling sites in the world.
Well, the plane is about to land and I have to shut down. More to come soon!
